SUMMER PROJECT
This scene is originally from Rouge one a Star Wars story directed by Gareth Edwards he is also known from being the director of the 2014 Godzilla reboot even though he isn't my favourite director I still chose this scene due to its use of music and the different types of shots and the lighting used in this ending sequence.
Rouge one isn't my favourite film my favourite film is actually The Hobbit: the battle of the five army's and that my favourite scene is when Thorin and the dwarves charge into battle to defend the dwarven homeland of Erebor and that my favourite director is actually Peter Jackson because of his use of location not sound stage
When I chose this scene I needed to think how I was going to make this play out the way I wanted by analysing the scene to see what I could do to make this as close to the original as possible I realised this scene was shot on the beach so I decided to use Brancaster beach as it was close by and that it provides the wide expanse of the sea, as seen in the original scene but there was a problem I had to use natural lighting because the sky was a light orange during the scene. The only way I could recreate that tinge to the sky was by using natural light so I decided to use the sunset on the beach which would bring in the bright sky and the colour I needed and that it would help with the bright light of the explosion presented at the end of the scene.
The scene started with the main characters slowly moving to the sea front and the camera was placed behind them so I used a wide shot to help set the scene around them while also focusing on the characters as they moved to the ocean in the next scene I used a two shot and in the editing stage I also applied a sunset filter to give the sky a bit more orange the reason I used this shot to show the connection between the two characters but to also show relationship between them.
After this I used a cut in to show their hands as they slowly moved to hold each other's hands to brace for their deaths later in the scene and during this I slowly panned to the top right to transition into an over the shoulder shot to show what shall bring them to their deaths.
One of the problems I ran into was the creation of the explosion as I am not that good with edited in effects such as explosions I decided to brighten the scene to show the flash of the explosion to end the scene and that to make the scene flow more smoothly I added some transitions and to tie everything together I used the movies official soundtrack from the original scene to give it an emotional setting to the scene.
